Drug and alcohol addiction is a deadly and serious crisis in the United States today. Substance abuse carries with it all different kinds of difficulties and problems issues the likes of which no other disease can quite rival. One of the unique things about addiction is that it is the only disease that is almost 100% fatal if it goes untreated yet is 100% curable in all cases. There is no rolling of the dice with addiction. There is no praying with addiction like there is with cancer. Whether or not an individual will beat his or her addiction habit depends entirely upon that person and his or her own desire and insistence to do it.
Unfortunately, the vast majority of drug and alcohol addicted individuals do not want to get clean and do not want to stop abusing drugs and alcohol. Obviously or else they would kick the habit. Truth be told, roughly 90% of all individuals who are addicted to drugs and alcohol are absolutely not interested in beating their habit. 90% of individuals who are addicted to drugs and alcohol will have to have an intervention performed on them to get them to a point where they actually are willing to seek out rehabilitation and make a positive change in their lives.
This is why a lot of parents face the charge of having to do such an intervention, and lots of other family members and loved ones other than parents also must to do this. It is a daunting task, but it is very necessary and much needed.
Tackling an Addiction Intervention
If you have a family member or loved one who is addicted to drugs or alcohol, the odds are that you are going to have to perform an intervention on them. With nine out of ten addicts being unwilling to get help and change, the odds are that trouble is around the corner and you could be in for a bit of a battle.
That’s why it’s rarely a good idea to go at it alone. On rare occasions an intervention attempted by oneself can be successful, but only on very rare occasions. Drug and alcohol addicts are usually so steeped into their addiction crisis habits that they are unwilling to consider anything else, and they are certainly unwilling to consider an eventuality that involves them getting clean from drug and alcohol addiction. That is never a factor that is brought up. Substance abuse tends to have pretty far reaching consequences and effects on those it consumes, and this type of action tends to warp the minds of addicts to the point where they think that they need their drugs or their alcohol above all else.
Substance abuse is a life-consuming action that is all encompassing and all devouring. To get an addict to realize where his or her life is headed and to get them to do something about it, it usually takes a very intimate, very intensive intervention approach with many people whom the addict cares about. Parents, siblings, loved ones, grandparents, a significant other, friends, even co-workers can and should weigh in on an intervention and really get to the bottom of it.
Drug and alcohol addiction is a life-threatening crisis and problem. It has far-reaching consequences that extend all through different areas and aspects of life. It is very often fatal. When someone abuses drugs and alcohol, it has a very close, very intimate effect on that person, and on all who he or she cares about too. This is why it must be addressed with intervention. Getting a big group of people together who all individually mean something to the addict can make or break an intervention, so it is highly recommended that one do just that when considering performing an intervention on an addicted loved one.
